Careful classification prevents the term fascism from becoming so broad that it loses analytical value. At the same time, excessive caution can allow movements to conceal their origins through strategic changes in language. Understanding both continuity and adaptation is therefore essential.

Democratic resilience therefore requires more than censorship or policing. It depends on credible institutions, historical education, economic security, independent journalism, equal citizenship, protection of minority rights, and opportunities for meaningful political participation.

Public remembrance is also important. Memorials, museums, archives, survivor testimony, and historical scholarship make it more difficult to replace documented history with myths of innocence or national victimhood.

Fascism survives when its crimes are forgotten, its victims are marginalized, its personnel escape accountability, and its central ideas are repackaged for new audiences.
