Catarina Hosler Dismissal Notice
About my Accusation of Elder Abuse
I’d been taking care of my uncle for years as his health declined. At the time of his death he’d had multiple bouts of cancer, was in severe pain from previous injuries and surgeries and later, I discovered, was suffering from Lewy Body disease as well.
On my last visit when my Uncle became non-responsive, I called emergency services. The police (sheriffs?) who came to the house were greeted by a brown-skinned woman (myself) and a white man (my uncle) who had passed away. There were multiple kinds of strong painkillers in his possession. I was in a state of shock at his death. They didn’t read me my rights or believe anything I said, assumed the worst, and arrested me for elder abuse.
It took 6 years to finally clear my name.
