===== In the field, a 50-kW solar tower reactor is fed only CO2 and water, and produces jet fuel =====
[https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2022/7/24/2112238/-In-the-field-a-50-kW-solar-tower-reactor-is-fed-only-CO2-and-water-and-produces-jet-fuel by skralyx 24/7/22 DAILY KOS]
If I had a nickel for every time someone claimed “artificial photosynthesis” or “solar fuel production” in the lab and wrote a paper or grant proposal about it, I’d have … well, a couple cases of Ukrainian vodka, OK? So I was really impressed to see that a collaboration among the ETH Zurich and a few other Eurpoean organizations actually built a plant that, in real sunlight, out in the field, converts carbon dioxide and water into aviation fuel. This is the first time anyone has ever actually done this for real. '''Check it out''' in the July 20 edition of the Cell Press journal ''Joule'' (open access article!).

[https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/nov/24/green-technology-precision-fermentation-farming by George Monbiot 24/11/22 The Guardian]
Precision fermentation is a refined form of brewing, a means of multiplying microbes to create specific products. It has been used for many years to produce drugs and food additives. But now, in several labs and a few factories, scientists are developing what could be a new generation of staple foods.

=====Kitepower displays the ‘miracle of airborne energy’ by MAURO MEREU 8/25/23 Innovations Origins=====
https://innovationorigins.com/en/kitepower-displays-the-miracle-of-airborne-energy/
The kite system is made out of four components. A ground station – a 20 ft container – converts the kite’s mechanical energy into electricity and keeps rolling the device. From there, a cable connects the unit to the kite, which is attached to a control unit that oversees its movement and communication with the ground station. The 60 m2 kite itself combines ruggedness and low weight, featuring an inflatable part and a fiberglass skeleton. This way, the device can reach heights up to three hundred meters.

The kite does not spin around; the control station makes it move in a way that it closely resembles a figure of eight. This kind of movement allows the device to fly perpendicular to the wind, thus making sure that the kite moves at a higher speed and with improved efficiency. In addition, if the device were to move in circles, the cable would entangle, thus being ineffective.

=====Hygroelectricity -- Nikola Tesla's Dream Reimagined?=====
[https://www.theguardian.com/science/2023/jul/02/it-was-an-accident-the-scientists-who-have-turned-humid-air-into-renewable-power?utm_term=64a247cbc7347b0db83e05b44b3db4e2&utm_campaign=GuardianTodayUK&utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&CMP=GTUK_email Ned Carter Miles 7/02/23 The Guardian]
“To be frank, it was an accident,” says the study’s lead author, Prof Jun Yao. “We were actually interested in making a simple sensor for humidity in the air. But for whatever reason, the student who was working on that forgot to plug in the power.”

The UMass Amherst team were surprised to find that the device, which comprised an array of microscopic tubes, or nanowires, was producing an electrical signal regardless.

“Supercritical resources can be found everywhere on Earth by drilling deep enough…Drilling to this depth is financially prohibitive with existing technology…Economic production of supercritical resources will require the development of entirely new classes of drilling technologies and methods.”

=====Australian scientists say discovery could render ammonia from fossil fuels obsolete=====
[https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abg2371 by Science.Org 06/11/2021]
An electrochemical route to ammonia could substantially lower the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the current thermal Haber-Bosch process. One relatively promising option under study involves reductive formation of lithium nitride, which can be protonated to ammonia. However, the ethanol used to date as a local proton source in these studies may degrade under the reaction conditions. Suryanto et al. report the use of a tetraalkyl phosphonium salt in place of ethanol (see the Perspective by Westhead et al.). This cation can stably undergo deprotonation–reprotonation cycles and, as an added benefit, it enhances the ionic conductivity of the medium.

=====Goodbye, Centralized Power Grid. Hello, Autonomous Energy Grids=====
[https://spectrum.ieee.org/energy/the-smarter-grid/goodbye-centralized-power-grid-hello-autonomous-energy-grids?fbclid=IwAR2wIp3WOFP0hfMIBUnLxPpOy9yOdkdWkRwqxbCjtHxpdZ8nz4L0qSSP9BI IEEE Spectrum] By Benjamin Kroposki, Andrey Bernstein, Jennifer King and Fei Ding 23 Nov 2020
How to build a massively decentralized power grid with AI, renewable energy, and energy storage
The concept and core technology for the autonomous energy grid are being developed by our team at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, in Golden, Colo. Since 2018, NREL and local utility Holy Cross Energy have been putting the concept into practice, starting with the construction of the first four houses in Basalt Vista. Each home has an 8-kilowatt rooftop PV system with lithium iron phosphate storage batteries, as well as energy-efficient, all-electric heating, cooling, water heaters, and appliances. All of those assets are monitored and can be controlled by the AEG. So far, average utility bills have been about 85 percent lower than typical electric bills for Colorado.
Because of the soaring number of grid-tied devices, operators will no longer be able to use centralized control in the not-so-distant future. Over a geographically dispersed network, the communication latencies alone make a centralized system impractical. Instead, operators will have to move to a system of distributed optimization and control.
