Actually a region in South Africa (Sterkfontein Caves area) is NOW officially recognized as the “Cradle of Humankind”. The reason for this is that this region has yielded the closest known APE species ancestor to our HOMO (human) species… in other words the closest link (or jump) ever found between apes and humans (homo) in our evolution timeline.
