William Hall Reply: Also nearly the most northerly. As seen in the commentary this is very likely a consequence of chaotic changes in the complex dynamics of Earth's Climate System processing and transporting the energy from incoming solar radiation into heat radiating away from the planet to outer space. The circulation processes driven by that energy transport generate the normally fairly predictable jet streams and polar vortexes. However, as 'forcing' temperatures change as the result of global warming, it is not unexpected that the highly non-linear dynamics generating the jet streams go through points of chaotic instability.
